Guidance for UK Candidates Preparing for the ASIS Certification Examinations

General:
  1. Check eligibility status at https://www.asisonline.org/Certification/Board-Certifications/Pages/default.aspx. If in doubt, contact certification@asis.org.uk
  2. Submit your application form https://www.asisonline.org/Certification/Apply-for-Certification/Pages/default.aspx. A number get sent back for more information, so it is good to do this early. If you would like the Chapter Certification Representative to review your application before you send it please forward to certification@asis.org.uk
  3. Get your study materials and begin reading. Advice on this in the specific sections below.
  4. Evaluate the ASIS study programme options. Contact certification@asis.org.uk for latest information.
  5. Consider following an online review https://www.asisonline.org/Education-Events/Education-Programs/elearning/Pages/default.aspx but note that the CPP materials have moved on somewhat since the review was written.
  6. Now go to the specific guidance below for your chosen examination.

  7. CPP   PSP   PCI
CPP:
  1. Listen to the webinar via the ASIS CPP main site.
  2. Download the Preparing for the CPP Exam Handbook.
  3. Purchase the POA Manual. This is the most important reference source and, with about 3,000 pages, is a significant reading challenge. Your purchase options are as follows (most students opt for the Kindle download as this can be read offline on a Kindle, PC, iPad etc.):
  4. Get the relevant ASIS standards and guidelines. There are 8 for CPP and they are listed at https://www.asisonline.org/ASIS-Store/Products/Pages/CPP-Standards-and-Guidelines-Set-(Electronic-for-Web).aspx?cart=4d08290505f34cc0b41924c570babf2c. As a member you are entitled to a one-time download. Otherwise you will have to purchase the download.
  5. You might like to purchase the online review or CD, but to the best of our knowledge it is still a little out of date https://www.asisonline.org/Education-Events/Education-Programs/elearning/Pages/default.aspx
  6. You might like to purchase the CPP Study Guide https://www.asisonline.org/ASIS-Store/Products/Pages/CPP-Study-Guide.aspx but it was last revised in 2008 and there has been a total revision of the study materials since then. You may find other non-ASIS CPP Study Guides - avoid.
  7. Go to https://www.asisonline.org/Certification/Board-Certifications/CPP/Pages/default.aspx and click on each of the study domains at the bottom of the page. You should then print these pages as they will be invaluable in focussing your study.
  8. Now you are ready to begin reading, but before you do so, contact the Chapter Certification Representative at certification@asis.org.uk and he will talk you through what areas of what books to focus your attention on and the style of questions that you can expect.
PSP:
  1. Listen to the webinar via the ASIS main site.
  2. Purchase the reference materials. They are listed at https://www.asisonline.org/ASIS-Store/Products/Pages/PSP-Reference-Materials.aspx but you are going to pay a lot of postage and it will be slower if you buy them from ASIS. Instead, get them from Amazon either as hardcopy or Kindle. Be sure to get the right editions. You will need, nevertheless, to get the two guidelines from ASIS either by purchase or as a one-time free member download. Within the coming 12 months this reference set will change, but there has been no specific notification yet.
  3. Consider the PSP online review, to our knowledge they are reasonably up to date, but beware hefty shipping fees for the CD. Call the Bookstore to negotiate a better rate.
  4. Consider purchasing the PSP Study Guide https://www.asisonline.org/ASIS-Store/Products/Pages/PSP-Study-Guide-2nd-Ed.aspx. It has been recently revised.
  5. Go to https://www.asisonline.org/Certification/Board-Certifications/PSP/Pages/default.aspx and click on each of the study domains at the bottom of the page. You should then print these pages as they will be invaluable in focussing your study.
  6. Now you are ready to begin reading, but before you do so, contact the Chapter Certification Representative at certification@asis.org.uk and he will talk you through what areas of what books to focus your attention on and the style of questions that you can expect.
PCI:
  1. Listen to the webinar via the ASIS main site.
  2. Purchase the Professional Investigator's Manual. You can buy this hardcopy from ASIS (but beware postage costs and call Bookstore for a better rate) or you can get it as a download for Kindle from Amazon here (you don't need a Kindle as there is Kindle for PC, iPad, Android etc).
  3. Consider the PCI online review https://www.asisonline.org/Education-Events/Education-Programs/Certification%20Reviews/Pages/PCI-Review-Course-Online.aspx or CD https://www.asisonline.org/ASIS-Store/Products/Pages/PCI-Online-Review-CD-Rom.aspx, but call the Bookstore to negotiate a better shipping rate than that which the web form gives you.
  4. Consider purchasing the PCI Study Guide https://www.asisonline.org/ASIS-Store/Products/Pages/PCI-Study-Guide.aspx, but negotiate a better shipping rate than that given on the web form.
  5. Go to https://www.asisonline.org/Certification/Board-Certifications/PCI/Pages/default.aspx and click on each of the study domains at the bottom of the page.
